Star, Idaho
Additions and shops on Star lots.
Star still has room on many lots for the kind of project that is hard to fit in tighter Boise neighborhoods: an addition or a detached shop.
Star is a smaller city, and the houses range from older homes near the original town to newer subdivisions along the Highway 44 corridor. The useful question is usually the lot. A shop or a family-room addition depends on setbacks, access, and whether the property is actually inside Star city limits.
We run Star projects through the same preconstruction process we use everywhere else in the valley. A smaller building department doesn't make the structure any simpler. It does mean we confirm the permit path early instead of copying it from a Boise job.
Neighborhoods
Downtown Star
Older lots near the original town grid, often with an existing house that an addition has to meet.
Highway 44 corridor
Newer subdivisions where owners add space or a shop after the house is already built.
Outlying acreage
Larger parcels where a detached shop is a zoning question before it is a design.
Permitting
- Work inside Star city limits goes through the City of Star. Adjacent land may be in Ada County or another city. Do not guess from the mailing address.
- Detached shops are allowed only where zoning, setbacks, and utilities support them. That is a parcel-level check.
- We coordinate the permit during preconstruction, starting from Star's rules, not another city's.

Questions
- Do you build shops in Star?
- Yes, when the shop is a real building: foundation, structure, and a permitted use. The lot still has to allow it.
- Are Star rules the same as Boise’s?
- No. Star has its own zoning and building process. A project that would be routine in Boise still has to be checked in Star.
- What should I start with?
- The address, what you want built, and any drawings you have. Send them through the project form and we'll review the scope before we meet on site.
